The Count Basie Center for the Arts
Role
Graphic Designer
Objective
Market and promote live events, in-house educational and outreach performing arts classes, and gala fundraising initiatives that align with their nonprofit status.
Process
Print
Depending on the project, I would utilize artist-provided ad-mats to promote their events and align them with the Basie's brand identity. Alternatively, I would use photography that either I had taken myself, or was provided by another in-house photographer to put together marketing materials for performing arts educational opportunities onsite as well as community outreach initiatives. When it came to the gala fundraisers, the process would be more involved, requiring event brand buildouts that would be pushed to all supporting materials, both in print and digital.
Experiential Marketing
For the Amuse Bouche Gala, we transformed the venue into the streets of Paris in order to promote several restaurants local to the venue. Patrons were escorted down an alleyway adorned with posters of all the local restauranteurs to enter the theatre from the stage entrance rather than the traditional entrance. Once inside, they were greeted by a sight of the stage built out to the mid-orchestra and constructed signage and house/store fronts to emulate walking down the streets from place to place as well as an Eiffel Tower in the balcony. Patrons walked from "storefront" to storefront, sampling small plates (amuse bouches) from each, getting to experience a taste of their respective menus. We brought in apache and can-can dancers as well as aerialists to entertain the guests further.
